For WPG purposes, travel is any business trip that will require an overnight stay. For any time out of the office that meets the definition of travel, a properly approved travel request will be needed before any arrangements can be made. The travel request also serves as a blanket purchase requisition for any purchases or expenses related to the trip.
If there is a conference that you would like to attend, but there is no overnight stay involved, this time out of the office is not considered “travel.” However, it will be necessary to submit a requisition to the appropriate supervisor or department head. This will allow payments to be made/prepared and any additional arrangements that you might need help with can be taken care of. Also, fill out a leave request so that Payroll knows where you are. Mark the leave type as BR for business related.
